Ecosystem Services
Ecosystem services are ecological processes that benefit humans. They involve the transformation of natural capital into processes or products that humans value. For example, the pollination of agricultural crops by wild pollinators (i.e. bees and other insects) is an example of an ecological process that benefits humans. Since 2004, we have been collecting data on a variety of different types of natural resource extraction in northeastern Madagascar. Our work focuses exclusively on ecosystem provisioning services including wildlife, ethnomedicines, honey, timber, thatch for roofing and wild fruits and vegetables.
