For the first time, beginning in 2013, we are moving our research from exclusively based in the Maroantsetra area (Makira Natural Park and Masoala National Park) to outside of this region. Our mission is to begin a rapid census research program to collect data on household socio-economics, natural resource reliance, bushmeat extraction, and human health. We will begin this research program by expanding throughout the eastern rainforest regions and then spreading to the rest of the nation of Madagascar.
Our first site, Betampona Special Reserve, is in partnership with Madagascar Fauna Group and Wild Care (St. Louis Zoo). Josoa RABEHATONINA and Andritahina RAKOTOSOA are leading this effort for our team and the work will last from February - August 2013.
